Why Study Music Technology | The Creative Industries

Become part of the £4.1bn industry

The Creative industries

According to official stats released by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport the creative industries are worth £76.9bn per year to the UK economy. The number of creative jobs in the UK rose by 66,000 to 2.62 million in 2013 as creative roles grew faster than the rest of the economy. One in 12 UK roles is a now defined as a creative role.

In terms of the Music Industry, the core industry made an estimated economic contribution of £4.1bn to the UK economy in 2014, a rise of 5 per cent from 2013, generating £2.2bn of exports and supporting 117,000 full-time jobs - with over 10,000 of those roles being music producers and recording studio staff.

According to the study, Measuring Music, published in September 2015 by the industry association 'UK Music', the music industry out-performed the UK economy by growing at 5 per cent in 2014, compared to the UK economy as a whole which expanded at 2.6 per cent.

As an ambitious person, desperate to work in the music industry you may face negativity from those who say there are no jobs to be found in the music industry but thankfully, that is just not the case!
