The BA (Hons) Sound for Screen programme has two dynamic pathways which allow students to choose their specialism in the world of Film and Television sound, students can either specialise in Audio for Screen or Composition for Screen. This versatile course will give you all the real world skills required to be a sound or music composition specialist in an ever changing and exciting area of the creative industries, explore the expansive world of sound for screen and discover innovative new approaches in your specialism.
SOUND FOR FILM & TELEVISION
The specialist Audio pathway is designed for those interested in Foley, Sound Effects Production, Broadcast Audio, Post Production and Location Sound Recording. The course also examines advanced studio recording techniques which are essential for the modern sound practitioner.
You will gain significant insight into a wide variety techniques and methodologies from advanced recording, mixing and editing to synthesis, sound design and the creation of sound effects for film and television. You'll explore the traditional art of Foley recording as well as the modern techniques of software based Foley manipulation. The course is includes specialist workshops in Studio Recording, Location Sound, Soundscape Recording, Foley, Broadcast Audio and advanced studio techniques.
MUSIC COMPOSITION FOR FILM & TELEVISION
The Composition pathway is for those wanting to specialise in composition and orchestration techniques in the creation of music for Film and Television. This pathway also explores sequencing and production techniques which are essential to the modern film / tv composer.
The modern Film and TV composer needs to be versatile, musically skilled and highly competent in modern music production techniques. Explore the world for music composition for Film and Television, discover innovative new approaches to creative music composition and learn about what makes an amazing musical cue in the modern Film and Television industries. The course includes specialist workshops in Music Composition and Scoring, DAW Fundamentals, Film & Television Music Practice, Film Scoring and Orchestration, Electroacoustic Composition and Professional Collaboration: Working with Directors.

Additional industry certification; Students will also embark on the Pro Tools certification, a professionally recognised industry qualification. Those wanting to pursue a career in post production can use this as a spring board to gaining the Operator Pro Tools | Post verification.
The course is based at our brand new media facility in the heart of Bristol, boasting 10 fully equipped studios, huge live room, Foley studio, surround sound suite and a lecture theatre screening room.

REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE
Throughout the course, there are multiple opportunities for you to gain real world experience.
Students have the opportunity to link with various production companies in Bristol and students are involved with actual projects being carried out in the area.
Working closely with dBs Music’s sister company Screenology we will be connecting students with industry professionals in the UK and beyond. These connections will be gained through a series of guest workshops and also through connections with media production companies in the area.

UK Applicants must have GCSE English Language at C or above, or an equivalent qualfication such as Functional Skills Level 2.
Applicants who do not have English as their first language must have:

The tuition fees for the 2017/2018 academic year:
UK and EU full-time fees: £9,000 per year
Students on this course are also official students of the University of St Mark & St John, our validating university, and can apply to Student Finance for a tuition fee loan to cover the full cost of your course. There are also loans available to help you cover living costs too.
