SONGWRITING & COMPOSITION
Now accepting applications for September 2018
COURSE LOCATION: BRISTOL
If you really love exploring the creative process of crafting songs and music, then look no further. The modern songwriter and composer has to have a wide and diverse skillset to thrive in the digital age, and that’s precisely what we’re offering here. From an in depth understanding of compositional techniques, lyric writing, arranging, recording, sequencing and producing to launching an EP, we will help you develop all of the skills required to be the one-stop song shop that A&R and music commissioners now expect.
A deep understanding of the craft of songwriting is essential to anyone who wants to work in this exciting field. Having the ability to recognise and utilise different structures, forms, styles, keys and musical devices will allow you to truly harness your compositional potential. Couple this with a toolbox of lyrical devices and techniques, and you’ll feel comfortable approaching any songwriting challenge.
In addition to these creative skills, you will explore the approach that modern songwriters and composers take to structure and record their work. Utilising modern technology is now the norm, so getting to know your way around a studio is key. Exploring recording techniques, sequencing software, mixing skills and music production will lead you to a fuller understanding of industry practice, and how your creative output fits into the diverse and rapidly changing media landscape.
You’ll also develop your personal, business and management skills to give you everything you need to make your mark on the music industry. You will look at how the music industry works and how to get employment in it with a focus on how to market and promote yourself in the music industry.
