This diploma looks at electronic music production skills including sequencing, mixing, effects, fundamental studio recording techniques, music, sound for moving image and composing music. Equipment knowledge will cover everything from microphones and mixing desks through to samplers, hardware controllers and software as well as developing DJ skills and techniques.

You will use all the leading software packages including Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools and Native Instruments Komplete.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This exciting course covers many aspects of music technology and music production but has a key focus on the skills relevant to students interested in electronic music and DJ production. 

You will be trained in essential music production techniques, both modern and traditional, broadening your skills as a producer and giving you greater insight into working with sound in general. You will learn how to record your own sounds and edit samples, to create new sounds that will enable you to create original sounding music. In addition, this course has a focus on essential skills based on DJ Performance, you will be introduced to the world of turntablism and a multitude of other mixing and performance techniques such as using Ableton Live as a DJ tool as well as various other control surfaces. 

You’ll also develop your personal, business and management skills to give you everything you need to make your mark on the music industry. In the 21st Century music technology is a serious career, and this course will get you started on the career path you've always dreamed of. You will look at how the music industry works and how to get employment in it with a focus on how to market and promote yourself in the music industry.

Upon completion of this Pre-Degree qualification you will also have gained the qualifications necessary to progress on to University-level study.


COURSE OPTIONS

This course is available in 3 qualification pathways, depending on your age. Please select your age range you will be on the 31st August prior to the course starting in September:

16-17 Yrs

Qualification: 2 Year Level 3 Extended Diploma

YEAR 1

YEAR 2

  • Composing music
  • Audio engineering principles
  • Planning and delivering a music product

This qualification is equivalent to 3 A-Levels and will earn you the UCAS Points needed to go on to University study.

Students aged 16-17 years old will be fully funded for the duration of the course.

18 Yrs

Qualification: 1 Year Level 3 90-Credit Diploma

This qualification is equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels

Students aged 18 years old will be fully funded for the duration of the course. Upon completion you can progress on to our Access to Higher Education for your 2nd year - check out the 19 years and over dropdown for more information.

Qualification: 1 Year Access to HE Diploma

WHERE CAN I STUDY THIS COURSE?


THE OFFICIAL STUFF

+ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Pre-Degree 16-18 yrs Diplomas

A minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grade 4/C or above and must include either English or Maths.

Pre-Degree 19 yrs + Access to HE Diploma

There are no formal entry requirements for the Access to HE Diploma, however; as it is a fast-track to Higher Education option, we do require that you have some experience in music, either as a musician, a producer, a DJ, etc.

If you are unsure if you have the right experience, simply get in touch and we can help guide you.

We also offer introductory short courses aimed at providing you with a foundation in music production, which could provide you with the right level of experience to be accepted

+ FUNDING & COURSE COSTS

16-18 Yrs

All full-time courses are FREE to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August prior to your course starting in September.

19-23 Yrs

If it is your 1st Level 3 qualification then the course will be free.

If you already have a Level 3 qualification you will need to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the course fees.

24 Yrs +

Will need to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the course fees.

Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe for an Access to HE course once you complete a higher education course. This means you do not have to repay it.

+ QUALIFICATION DETAILS

Our level 3 diplomas are Post-16 vocational qualifications. Upon completion you will have achieved a Music Production Extended Diploma Level 3, this qualifications is equivalent to 3 A-Levels.

The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a full Level 3 qualification, and awarded by CAVA (Cambridge Access Validating Agency), licensed by the QAA and accepted by Higher Education Institutions for Univeristy entry.

Our Pre-Degree Diploma courses are run in partnership with Cornwall College.
