COURSE OVERVIEW

This course covers all that the modern day performer needs to know to enhance their playing, production, promotion and professional skills. We’ll give you the tools to develop as a performer and to truly understand the mechanics of the music industry.

You will explore, experiment and integrate a range of skills utilised as professional performers, focusing on music performance techniques, composition, using music technology in performance and build a foundation in fundamental studio recording techniques. You will practise the skills required for effective songwriting, combining lyrics and music effectively in a range of contexts, culminating in a portfolio of your own songs. In addition, you’ll explore skills in marketing and event management, and learn to apply them to become a success in the modern day music industry.

During your time studying at dBs Music you will also have the opportunity to work as a session musician, working collaboratively alongside our music technology students with a ton of opportunities to perform and record.

COURSE UNITS

This course is offered on two qualification pathways:

+ 2 Year Extended Diploma

Designed for learners aged 16-18 years, or 19-23 year with no previous level 3 qualifications.

Qualification: 2 Year Level 3 RSL Extended Diploma

Year 1

Year 2

Equivalent to 3 A-Levels and will earn you the UCAS Points needed to go on to University study.

+ 1 Year Subsidiary Diploma

For learners over 19 years.

Qualification: 1 Year Level 3 RSL Subsidiary Diploma

After completing this one year course you have the option to go onto the Access to HE Course, or onto the 2nd year of the RSL Extended Diploma.

From Mac labs full of the latest music making software during lesson time to MIDI controllers, DJ booths, studios and rehearsal rooms - we are fully kitted out and ready to go whatever course you choose to study!

+ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Level 3 Diplomas

A minimum of 4 GCSE’s at 4/C or above and must include either English or Maths. Or an equivalent qualification such as a Level 2 Diploma.

We also require that you have some experience in music, either as a musician, performer or songwriter, etc. If you are unsure if you have the right experience, simply get in touch and we can help guide you.

Didn't get the grades?

We also deliver English & Maths GCSE retakes which you can take alongside your course.

+ FUNDING & COURSE COSTS

All full-time courses are FREE to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August prior to your course starting in September.

19-23 yrs old funding

If it is your 1st Level 3 qualification then the course will be free and fully funded.

If you already have a Level 3 qualification you will need to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the course fees.

24+ students

Will need to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the course fees.

+ QUALIFICATION DETAILS

Our level 3 diplomas are Post-16 vocational qualifications, awarded by RSL Awards. Upon completion you will have achieved a Music Production RSL Extended Diploma Level 3 (Music Practitioners).

The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a full Level 3 qualification, and awarded by Ascentis, licensed by the QAA and accepted by Higher Education Institutions.
