In this module, you will explore both the theory and application of 3D modelling, working with softwares such as Autodesk Maya to create game engine-ready 3D models. Alongside the theoretical and practical applications, you will also investigate the legal and ethical considerations around 3D modelling and how this applies to your own creations.

Audio for Computer Games

High-quality audio is key for immersion in video games, and this module will help you develop your understanding of how sound and music can transform an interactive experience. Through both the discussion of sound and music’s role in games, to the limitations developers must work around, you will work with key Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), building fundamental skills in sound creation, manipulation and implementation; producing integrated audio in a 3D level.  

Game World Design

What makes a great gaming experience? This question will form the foundations of your studies in game design. Investigating a myriad of visual styles, gameplay mechanics and genres, and evaluating the history of games design, you will plan and design an original game concept.

Digital Graphics for Games

Exploring concept art, UI/UX, background graphics, textures, HUD as well as marketing materials like posters and game packaging, you will formalise your understanding of the many styles and approaches to digital graphics for games; producing your own selection for a video game of your choice.

Guide To Computer Games Industry

Supporting your creative studies, this module will introduce you to the inner-workings of the games industry. Across this module you’ll be introduced to the organisational structure of the industry, evaluate the market trends and financial landscape, deepen your understanding of the legalities and ethical considerations of games, and analyse what companies look for when recruiting new talent.

Computer Game Engines

Understanding the tools at your disposal is key to any successful game professional, and in this module you’ll be taking a deep dive into game engines. Looking at their primary functions, as well as the component tools that form the backbone of a game, e.g. occlusion, ray-tracing, audio implementation and Artificial Intelligence, you will design and create your own 3D game.

Creative Media / Games Design

This final module is a culmination of all your studies throughout the course as you produce a fully-realised project. You will conceive an idea for your project, creating a plan and design brief, before managing the production process and delivering a finished product. You’ll also employ self-evaluation skills to review the process as a whole and better understand how to improve as you grow as a games developer.

HE Study Skills

Alongside your creative learning, you’ll also undertake four modules that support your academic skills and prepare you for university. With the support of your tutors, you’ll create a personal statement and UCAS application at the start of the academic year. You’ll then turn your attention to essay planning and writing, grow your understanding of Harvard referencing and assembling bibliographies; grow your critical thinking skills, as well as developing presentation skills.
