Situated in the heart of Plymouth, the dBs campus is within walking distance of the thriving commercial centre and the historic Barbican and Hoe Foreshore. Plymouth is where the dBs story began and, with a rapidly growing electronic music scene, vibrant music venues, theatres, art galleries and easy access to Exeter, Torquay and other locations across Devon and Cornwall, it provides excellent opportunities for students to thrive and develop as sound, music and digital technology professionals.

Our Campus

The Plymouth campus is a creative hub for production, live and electronic music, innovation in technology and forward thinking creatives in the area. Our fantastic tutor team include chart topping record producers with over 13 UK top 10 hits (including 6 number 1s), Pro-Tools, Apple & Ableton certified trainers, multi-instrumentalists, modular synthesis experts, sound designers and world renowned DJs/producers.

Our Plymouth campus is also home to the modular research group, a team of innovators who design and develop new devices that push the boundaries of music technology both in the studio and on the stage. Students get the opportunity to be involved in the process of developing new pieces of tech alongside the group, as well as attend international modular industry events including SuperBooth in Berlin.

The campus hosts a comprehensive guest lecture programme that has included masterclasses from David Cherry (BAFTA nominated for work with Sir David Attenborough), Phil Harding (UK/USA Billboard multiple 1 record producer), Killer Hertz (international drum & bass artists), Ableton Live and many more leading industry professionals.

Facilities

As the original dBs campus, our centre in Plymouth has built up an impressive kit list of pro-audio equipment from the world’s leading manufacturers. These include:

  • 7 recording studios and 3 live rooms
  • Multi-functional Pro Suite
  • Dolby Atmos mixing suite

  • 7 DJ suites
  • IT suites

“It’s been great to be able to use mixing consoles such as the SSL Duality and API 1608… Having this alongside the degree makes the transition into bigger studios much easier and has assisted me in setting up and running a mixing and mastering business.”

- Benjamin Mercado, BA (Hons) Music Production and Sound Engineering alumnus
