Greg Jamieson Headshot
Fascinated by the integration of the physical sciences and creativity within game art and game development, Greg has years of experience teaching the subjects to students across the country.

What did you do before joining dBs?

I was a freelance Technical Artist and Course Leader for BA Game Art at Boomsatsuma. Prior to this, I worked for Falmouth University, Bath University, Seisma Magazine and Junkyard Productions.

Why did you first get into game development?

I accidentally got into teaching via a technician role at a secondary school where they delivered Music Technology BTECs. Once appointed, I expanded the courses offered to our 6th form to cover other creative technical disciplines such as Film, Animation, VFX, and eventually, Games.

Any special areas of interest?

In addition to the application of game technologies across disciplines, such as film and visual effects, I have a particular interest in Physics. Part of the beauty of these creative disciplines is the fundamental laws of nature that dictate their behaviour. Being able to manipulate the abstract parameters that govern sound, dynamics or optics via digital tools to produce works of art that resonate with others, feels like a superpower that anyone can access.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love seeing people progress and evolve as practitioners, watching them make the most of the time and resources they have to realise their creative vision. It is extremely satisfying to see the delivery of a high-quality end product while witnessing the time and effort it took to produce it.

Tell us about your proudest career moment.

I get a great sense of satisfaction when my students find work doing a job that is relevant to their degree and earning enough money so they have a good work/life balance. Previous students have gained employment in relevant disciplines in the first year of their degree, which was incredibly satisfying.

What do you get up to outside of teaching?

I co-own a multimedia company that deals with a wide range of creative contracts, from 3D to web. Most of my free time is taken up with family, however, I do still enjoy tinkering with music, and love to play golf when I can.

Tell us something our students may not know about you.

I have been restoring a 99 Audi Cabriolet for the last three years, replacing the roof, crash repair and mechanics. I guess it has become a forever project, as there is always something new I would like to do.

I love seeing people progress and evolve as practitioners, watching them make the most of the time and resources they have to realise their creative vision.
