Skye Walters - Live Sound Module Leader & Technician
Skye is most at home behind a mixing console and has racked up an impressive list of credits as a live sound engineer across the UK and Europe.

What did you do before joining dBs?

"I graduated from dBs in 2022 and spent the last nine months or so working as an audio-visual technician at corporate events. I got to travel lots and work with some very interesting clients!"

Why did you first get into live sound?

"I absolutely adore live music. Growing up, I was exposed to a lot of different music by various family members and as soon as I was old enough, I was going to gigs. Initially I thought I wanted to be a performing musician but I get horrific stage fright; live sound for me means that I still get to be involved in amazing performances but that I don’t have to be in the spotlight."

Any special areas of interest?

"In terms of live sound, I lean heavily towards monitor engineering. I’m a pretty feedback-driven human being and I find working closely with artists much more rewarding personally."

What do you love most about what you do?

"I love seeing artists having an incredible time and giving their absolute all during a performance. When an artist feels good, the audience gets to have the best time."

Tell us about your proudest career moment?

"I don’t feel like I’ve got enough career experience to have a singular stand out moment just yet! But things that make me proud of my career include touring the UK with a 14 piece orchestra, travelling to Switzerland to engineer a national security summit and working at charity festivals!"

What do you get up to outside of your role at dBs?

"Outside of dBs, I have a few unusual hobbies. I’m a historical reenactor and take part in reenactments of the English Civil War. I also ice-skate, play piano, embroider and am learning to crochet!"

Tell us something our students may not know about you?

"I was born deaf! I had problems with my hearing through childhood and had to go for regular hearing tests. After multiple treatments and surgeries, my hearing is obviously not too bad since I can engineer but I still struggle with certain frequencies!

"Also: I own four (soon to be six!) pet rats who are named after some of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter franchise."
