Renowned for his work in DC Breaks, Chris has performed across the globe, produced music for video games, and is a wizard when it comes to sound design.

What did you do before joining dBs?

"I was a full-time Drum and Bass DJ and producer, mainly working under the name DC Breaks."

Why did you first get into electronic music production?

"I first got into jungle listening to Kool FM in London where I grew up and through borrowing a tape of Logical Progression. Around the same time one of my friends got decks and a basic studio set up and we started to learn how to mix and make tunes. I was hooked!"

Any special areas of interest?

"I’m particularly interested in bass sound design. Although, since joining dBs, I’ve become more interested in the mixing and mastering side of things at a very technical (and nerdy) level."

What do you love most about what you do?

"It's a bit of a cliché, but there’s nothing quite like making a tune, playing it to a crowd for the first time and hearing that roar when it drops."

Tell us about your proudest career moment?

"Probably the biggest show of my career was playing the incredible Arcadia Stage at Glastonbury on a Saturday night, 12-1, after Annie Mac to about 50,000 people. But for me, my proudest moment was hearing John Peel play one of my records on Radio 1 for the first time. That was very special to me and really gave me the confidence to pursue my career."

What do you get up to outside of your role at dBs?

"I’m still making music and DJing as DC Breaks, running my online business dcbreaks.com and I’m kept very busy with my young family at the moment! When I get time, I love escaping to the coast, getting some sand between my toes and attempting (badly) to surf."

Tell us something our students may not know about you?

"I’m generally known best for making dancefloor Drum and Bass, but I’ve also produced music for Disney, Playstation and the Fast & Furious franchise, as well as developing a hybrid synth-sampler-rompler plugin called HALO."

It's a bit of a cliché, but there’s nothing quite like making a tune, playing it to a crowd for the first time and hearing that roar when it drops.
