Phoebe Pope Profile Picture
Classically trained and with decades of experience producing, performing and educating in the music industry, Phoebe wants to pass on her love of experimentation and learning to her students at dBs Institute Manchester.

What did you do before joining dBs?

I have over 15 years experience performing with an electronic duo, composing, producing, and touring around the world. I have also worked as a composer for a sync agency, written music for art installations, and short films. I have been a member of a symphony orchestra playing cello for 8 years. I have over 6 years experience working in the education sector, specialising in creative performance with technology, electronic music composition, and songwriting and arrangement.

Why did you first get into music production and performance?

As much as I love classical music, I wanted more freedom to compose and develop my own sound. I have always loved experimental artists like Björk, The Prodigy, and composer Danny Elfman, and they inspired me to experiment with my own work. After leaving the orchestra, I started going to Logic workshops held at the Mac shop and never looked back!

Any special areas of interest?

Using Ableton live, operating Push 2, loopers, multi-effects pedals, and Max MSP. I have recently started looking at developing plug-ins and using A.I based technology.

What do you love most about what you do?

Learning new techniques and approaches to production and performance. With the ever evolving and constant development of technology, there is always something new to learn.

Tell us about your proudest career moment?

Proudest moment was performing for Tedx and opening the Manchester International Festival with 808 State!

What do you get up to outside of your role at dBs?

I perform with my own solo project using Ableton Push and Loopers. Outside of music I love getting stuck into a good cookbook!

Tell us something our students may not know about you?

I was once involved in giving feedback to a music technology company. It was such an amazing opportunity to see the development of hardware from an idea to a finished product! I would love to be able to create my own custom pedal that has everything in one compact portable unit.

I love learning new techniques and approaches to production and performance. With the ever evolving development of technology, there is always something new to learn.
