Recently gracing the stage at Reading and Leeds Festival, Jack’s passion for guitar is matched only by his love for recording and engineering bands.

What did you do before joining dBs?

"Before joining dBs, my job history has always revolved around music. I've taught guitar, been a guitar tech, worked at BIMM as a studio technician, and I was also the manager of a musical instrument store for a number of years."

Why did you first get into music production?

"While I was learning the guitar at the age of 10, my parents got me a small Line 6 audio interface that came with a free DAW. I was really inspired by the idea of multitrack recording on the computer, and was immediately hooked on layering (far too many) guitar parts over a drum loop I’d ripped off the internet. I’d create backing tracks to jam along to, and started making my own music too."

Any special areas of interest?

"I am particularly interested in the process of recording and producing bands, I love guitar music and everything that comes with it!"

What do you love most about what you do?

"Problem solving is my thing. I love being able to assist people within the area I know the most about, and being able to teach people at the same time to make sure they learnt something in the process is a win-win for me. Additionally, being around like-minded people and hearing the students work is really inspiring to me. The level of talent here at dBs is really special."

Tell us about your proudest career moment?

"Playing at Reading and Leeds festival with my band in 2022 is definitely a career highlight. It was a huge bucket list moment for me, as it's something I’d been striving for since I first attended the festival in 2012. In addition to this, reaching over 450k monthly listeners on Spotify is something that I’m really proud of."

What do you get up to outside of your role at dBs?

"I’m in a band called Corella, which takes up pretty much all of my free time outside of dBs, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I also enjoy mountain biking and watching live music when I get time."

Tell us something our students may not know about you?

I first got into this industry because I wanted to be a live sound engineer, although it quickly became apparent that I’d rather be on the stage than behind the desk!
